Junior Room News
April
In the Junior room this month we have been doing a lot of work with phonics. We have been doing phonics matching games, playing with magnetic letters and learning how to make words with all of the sounds that we have learnt! We have also been exploring the works of Julia Donaldson and Axel Sheffler. We have looked at “The Scarecrows’ Wedding,” “The Smartest Giant in Town” and “Monkey Puzzle.” We have been learning about magnets and spent some time making our own magnetic fishing game. We have also been looking at lots of types of transport. We have learned the names of many farm animals in Irish and you can see the fantastic pictures we have drawn of them on our whiteboards. We have our own farmer now named Dara. He is a dairy farmer in Galway and we speak to him every two weeks to find out what is going on on his farm.

March

We have had a great time in the Junior Room this March. We made some beautiful puppets to ease our way back into our school work after a few weeks learning from home. We played with cards and used them to remind us of our numbers. We celebrated St. Patrick’s Day and made some lovely flags and shamrocks from playdough. We also painted flowers. We sketched and painted the daffodils in our yard, we painted detailed pictures of flowers inspired by the work of Georgia O’Keefe, we painted sunflowers inspired by Van Gough. We learned the poem “The Daffodils” by William Wordsworth. For Easter we made huge Easter egg mosaics. It has been fantastic to be back in school together! - Miss Byron

February
The children in the Junior room worked very hard during the month on February. On Friday's we blew off some STEAM. One Friday we read the book 'Ish' by Peter Reynolds. We learned that you don't need to draw perfectly to draw. Below are some of our Ish drawings, sometimes it's okay if our drawings look flower-ish or Miss Byron-ish!

Junior Room News

January

This January while we have been working from home we have been learning about lots of different things. We have learnt some new sounds including W and V which we did last week. Some of the children created Vet’s surgeries at home as part of their study of the letter V. We learnt all about “An Aimsir” in Irish and were looking at play in SESE. We made lots of excellent STEAM projects on Fridays! We have been working hard on Zoom and Seesaw. We are very much looking forward to getting back into school to see each other but are keeping busy in the meantime. -Miss Byron

November
We celebrated Science Week along with the rest of the school in November. We did a STEM challenge to see how high we could make a lego tower that would support a tennis ball. The children worked collaboratively on this project in their pods. There was much discussion around the process and the children came up with excellent designs and insights.
The Junior Infants have been exploring the numbers 1,2 and 3 in many ways while the Senior Infants have been working with higher numbers.
Our theme for the month was houses and homes. In art the children made their own fantastic constructions. Below are some pictures of their masterpieces during construction! - Miss Byron

October
The Junior Room have been very busy this October. We have been learning lots about Autumn. We made some cool squirrels with Autumn leaves for tails!
During maths week we made shape monsters using 2-D shapes and had a great time doing a maths trail created for us by the senior room.

We made an Autumn symbol tree inspired by Gustav Klimt’s “Tree of Life.”
We have also been exploring colour mixing. We mixed red and yellow together to make orange backgrounds for our witches.
We have also been creating Potions together in our “Potion Lab.”

It has been so exciting and we are really looking forward to our outdoor Halloween disco on Friday!- Miss Byron
