We can't believe it is almost the end of the school year here in the Junior room and our Senior Infants will be moving up to the Middle room! We are trying to soak in our final week here and have lots of fun. We have been doing lots of great things including having a visit from our vet nurse Katie next door. She brought in lots of exciting things to show us and even one of the dogs called Rory! We have been practicing songs for our end of year Church service too. We have got to do lots of paired reading the last few months with the other classes and we have been having lots of fun in play time everyday. We had our first proper sports day this year down at the local park and we all got medals and had great fun! Congratulations to the blue team who won! We went on our school trip to 'The Forest Club' and we all had a blast! In art we learned about Leonardo Di Vinci and the Mona Lisa. We drew our own self-portraits based on the Mona Lisa. We also learned all about Lighthouses and got to design and draw them. For our last art lessons of the year we worked with clay to make whatever we wanted! We then painted them lots of nice colours.
We have had a wonderful year here in the Junior Room with Miss Shorten and are very much looking forward to our summer holidays.

We are enjoying Springtime here in the Junior Room! We have been learning all about Spring flowers and their names (Daffodils, bluebells, snowdrops, primroses, tulips etc.). We designed flowers out of paper and they all turned out wonderful. We recently learned the phrase 'April showers make May flowers' so we are currently conducting a weather chart to see how many days of an April week it rains! We planted radishes, salad leaves and peas in little containers. We have been doing the theme of 'Pirates' which has been a huge hit! We have turned our play house into a Pirate ship for the month! We have also been looking at Money in maths and everyone has loved using all of Miss Shorten's coins to find treasure! We have also practiced coin rubbing to get to know the shapes and sizes of our 1c,2c,5c,10c and 20c coins! We made St.Patrick's day art and used the coin rubbings to make pictures. We are also looking at the story of Easter in the lead up to our holidays and the reasons why we celebrate this time of year. We are looking forward to our Easter holidays and time off in the Junior Room so we will be all rested for our final term!

Happy New Year from the Junior Room! We are so happy to be in the classroom and learning lots of new things. We started off the year learning all about 3D shapes in maths and even tried to create some out of matchsticks and blue tac! Some were quite hard but we gave it a good go and even some of us managed to make cubes.
We have also looked at Caitheamh Aimsire (Hobbies) as Gaeilge along with learning new sounds oa, ai, ie and j in English.
We learned all about the Olympics which really caught our attention. We loved knowing all the fun facts about the history of Olympics in Ancient Greece and what sports Olympians compete in.
Our main theme for this month was The Vet. We hope to get the vet from next door in at some point and we have been treating animals during play time. We also created some wonderful Vet art and learned to draw bunnies, cats, dogs and hamsters!
One of the most exciting things of January was the return of Junior the bear! All the older classes remember Junior and being able to bring him home at the weekends. At the moment Junior is staying in the classroom as our extra student (we even call his name at roll time!) We decided his birthday was going to be 14th January so we celebrated his 6th birthday (we don't know his exact age though!) We threw him a party and make presents for him at play time. He is a very loved bear.

It has been a fun month here in the Junior Room! We have been doing our advent calendar every day and getting prizes such as extra books, extra yard time, more art time etc. which we are loving. We have been accompanied by Cookie the elf this month and he has been having fun watching over us. As part of the Green schools, we made Christmas decorations out of recycled materials. We took part in the whole school Nativity and we were the stable animals! We also sang 'Away in a Manger'. We have had a wonderful first term and are looking forward to the Christmas holidays!

The past two months have been busy here in the Junior Room! We have gotten into a lot of routines. We have been making lots of art and doing lots of fun activities in all our subjects.
For art, some highlights we have done include: Learning what silhouettes are and created Halloween art from that. We have also used the autumn weather to make leaf hedgehogs! We painted rocks that Miss Shorten picked at the beach and turned paper plates into winter wonderlands!
In maths we learned all about 2D shapes (circle, square, oval, triangle, rectangle) and learned about how many sides and corners they have as well as making them out of sticks and cotton buds. We did a shape hunt as well to find them around the school. We have also been enjoying our chalk maths drawings out in the yard every Friday! Recently, we have been learning about data and made incredible bar charts counting objects in the classroom.
We learned all about Oíche Shamhna agus An Aimsir as Gaeilge.
Our class theme has been 'Polar Regions' this past month and we have turned our playhouse into an igloo along with learning all about the North and South Pole and the famous Irish explorer Tom Crean!
We are looking forward to the Christmas season and all the fun we will be having! An elf might even make an appearance in the classroom....
